Fees for a UK boarding school vary greatly between schools and regions, but you can expect to budget for in the region of £25,000 to £50,000 per year for most students aged 13 and over. You will find even greater variation for a UK private school, but between £10,000 to £25,000 per year is a good basic benchmark. An experienced education counsellor will be able to help explain the fee structure of the school to you as each school will be different. However, one universally common factor with UK boarding schools and UK Private schools is that fees are usually quoted on a termly (aka semester) basis, of which there are 3 terms in an academic year (so remember to check if the fee you see is a termly fee or an annual fee, they are nearly always termly).

The fees above are likely to include all major elements you would expect, so for boarding students this will include things such as boarding house accommodation, three meals per day, tuition fees and regular activities. For day students this will often include tuition costs and some activity fees. One thing to bear in mind is that some schools charge supplements, whether that is for elite coaching or high level teaching/tuition or for non-standard activities (e.g. a ski trip). It is worth keeping in mind that if you are an international student, you will also need to budget for visa costs, transport costs and guardianship. Again, an experienced counsellor will be able to talk you through these elements and help you calculate total expenditure.

A further thing to keep in mind is that higher fees do not necessarily equate to better schools. There are many top UK boarding schools and top UK private schools that have lower fees and could be a perfect match for your requirements. As such, we always prefer to help our clients establish a needs based approach in shortlisting potential UK private schools and when trying to find UK boarding school.
