When trying to find UK boarding schools and UK private schools, you will notice that each school will have slightly different admissions requirements. There are multiple reasons for this and ultimately the best British boarding schools will use a method that suits their culture and ethos. We are proud to help families around the world to navigate the complexities of the application process and to explain in detail why each step is required.

UK Private School Finder and UK Boarding Schools finder provide valuable insight into the admissions process and how to best prepare and submit an application to your chosen school. We are fortunate to be able to draw on significant experience working in school admissions departments, UK teaching experience and even pupil experience of independent schooling across our colleagues.

Although each school can differ, we recommend preparing the following in advance before applying to the best UK boarding schools and the best UK Private Schools:

  • Prepare a personal statement (2 sides in length is usually adequate)

  • Request copies of your child’s two most recent school reports, more is even better

  • Obtain a reference from your current school, ideally in advance

  • If you prefer not to request the reference in advance, one from a previous tutor will help

  • A completed application form without gaps in information

  • Copies of your child’s passport

Whilst some UK private schools will not require all of these steps, based on our experience we recommend preparing these in advance and sending in one submission as this will give the school the vast majority of information they require in advance. Indeed, it is possible to arrange independent English language tests before applying (such as IELTS) but acceptance of these will vary between British boarding schools. One important factor that we emphasise is to ensure you have an experienced counsellor check over these documents and application, they will be able to highlight any areas that require attention in advance.

If you are considering UK education but unsure where to begin, allow us to share our knowledge and experience we have with helping over 400 other families choose the best school for them. We can talk you through a suggested list of the best boarding schools in the UK that match your requirements and we are confident you will be pleased with the results.
